Sugar Cookies
1 cup
butter (no substitute)
1-1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
2-1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/4 teaspoon salt
Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and vanilla and mix well. Add dry
ingredients and stir. Chill dough at least two hours or overnight.
Roll out dough on lightly floured board, 1/4 inch thick for soft cookies,
1/8 inch thick for crisper cookies, and cut out cookies.
Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Watch closely, as they only
get a tinge of brown on the edges. Frost with confectioners' sugar frosting or
glaze.
Makes 5 dozen.
